UCSB excels in providing students with interdisciplinary environmental education and mentorship at the graduate level. Dozens of master and doctoral students are working on environment related research and projects outside the core environmental graduate programs at UCSB. 

Academic Programs 

As environmental issues become ever more critical, scholarship concerned with environmental issues has become more relevant in UCSB’s more traditionally organized disciplines. Among these disciplines, the English Department has become a national leader in the study of literature and the environment; the Political Science Department has a graduate-level focus area on environmental politics and policy; the Geography Department is highly regarded for its strengths in quantitative, physical and human geography; and UCSB ranks among the world’s top universities for studies of environmental economics, ecology, and earth science.
